The International Union of Muslim Scholars condemns the arrest of a member of IUMS’s board of Trustees, Sheikh Dr Salman Al-‘Audah along with other renowned muslim sholars namely Sheikh Al-Qarni and Sheikh Al-‘Umari, although official statement has yet been issued by Saudi Arabia.
Sheikh Salman was a committed man of spreading da’wah in a modest ‘wasatiyyah’ approach as preached by IUMS.
Just recently, Sheikh Al-‘Audah was also tested with the deaths of both his wife and son.
IUMS Secretary, Sheikh Dr Ali Muhyiddin Al-Qurrah Daghi stated that Sheikh Al-‘Audah’s arrest was regards to the crisis between the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Sheikh Al-‘Audah has done “absolutely nothing” as Sheikh Dr Ali was certain that the allegations against hime were untrue as Sheikh Salman only called for unity among the GCC members through his Twitter account.
“O’Allah to whom all praises belong to, we are not worthy and incapable of counting the praises for You as to how You praise yourself. O’ Allah, unite our hearts and make us unite together for the sake of the people” he tweeted right after a phone call between the Emir of Qatar and the Saudi Prince recently.
IUMS has expressed serious concerns in light of the arrest of Sheikh Dr Salman Al-‘Audah and few more muslim scholars and preachers, among which are members of IUMS such as Sheikh Ali Al-‘Umari and Sheikh ‘Iwadh Al-Qarni. IUMS strongly demand the following :
“IUMS urges Saudi Arabia to handle the crisis [with] the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and when dealing with their scholars with great care and wisdom, so as not to involve them in political tensions”
